We are 7.8 billion lonely planetary bodies, circling each other, affected by gravity, pushing and pulling against each other to stay on course. We are 7.8 billion separate ecosystems, struggling to co-exist, trying to make sense of our environment, attentive to our own needs, less so to others. We are 7.8 billion conscious beings, waiting to be fully aware. waiting for our potential to take root and grow.
Discard your blinkers, look around, open your eyes and view the beauty of this planet and its people. Notice the person next to you, touch the person next to you, reach out to the person next to you. Be it family, friend, neighbor or stranger. Stop listening to the news with its distorted, slanted bias towards the worst of human nature. Feed your mind with poetry, noble stories, tales of heroism, sacred texts, glorious art. Let this expand your soul.
Extend your mind past the doom and gloom that surround us and reach for the light that exists beyond the shadows. Bathe in the light, baptize yourselves anew with the welcoming waters of fairness and reason. Be optimistic, look forward to the future and its opportunities, be resilient, be rooted in your faith. Love yourself, love others, love this planet, love this universe, love this life.
“I believe that imagination is stronger than knowledge. That myth is more potent than history. That dreams are more powerful than facts. That hope always triumphs over experience. That laughter is the only cure for grief. And I believe that love is stronger than death.”
― Robert Fulghum

Bravo. I live a simple life, and this is what I do. I take myself and imagination off to a place which has been my saviour, a grotto filled with wildlife, birds and butterflies, a stream and a relaxing sunbed with the sun streaming down on my face, that is my sanctuary for the craziness called life.

Wow! Susan, that sounds like a place I’d like to go to. Can I join you sometime? But of course, it wouldn’t be the same. We all need our quiet space of solitude we can retreat to. I’ll try to create my own version. It would probably be at White Hart Lane with Tottenham playing the last game of the season for the Premier League championship.

Len this is beautiful. There are some things the eyes read and there are some that the heart does. This was a heart reading. I think I will have to print it out and keep it. Beautiful.

Of course its okay, Kate. Thanks for reblogging. Never ask permission to use any of my blogs. I’m never protective in this area. Trust the magazine is doing well and giving you ongoing satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment. I would presume that it is no easy thing to get off the ground.

Each month is a scramble to the top of the mountain and then I stand there for five minutes and take in the view… and begin again but I do enjoy it.

Fabulous post, Len–beautifully penned from a wise heart. I like the Fulghum quote a lot too, I agree with it. A personal note re paragraph 2: I walked out to get groceries early this morning–and an older man was sitting amid some shrubbery. I don’t know if he was just resting, or homeless, but I greeted him, asked how he was doing–it was just a short pleasant exchange, prompted by my prayer whenever I go out…that God will help me to be a blessing to whoever I encounter, just as He has blessed me. It’s a practice I took up years ago, mostly to set my attitude right–not trying to be a saint 🙂 But it’s always remarkable, the people God puts in my path for those little moments of acknowledging a stranger (usually), showing them they’re not invisible. On my way back home, he was still there–I wished him a good day. If I’d purchased anything ready-to-eat, I might have offered it to him…but I didn’t think a raw pork chop or bag of frozen potatoes, or dry pinto beans would do him much good 🙂 Yesterday I spoke with a little old man inside the store–we were both in the cleaning products aisle, and had a fun chat. I seem to attract little old men, rather Bedelia-like 🙂 Blessings to you, Len ❤

We are definitely birds of a feather. Seems like something I would do. A lot of people live in their own world and are oblivious to their surroundings. You are a true child of the universe.
