Liars and Thieves-Book Review

I’ve read and followed many interesting bloggers since joining WordPress in March, 2018. Each writer/blogger claiming their own space from prose to poetry, horror to sci-fi, self help to self awakening, religion to fantasy, and so on and so on. We are a very imaginative group.

One such blogger/writer I have followed for a while is published author D.Wallace Peach. It was she who introduced me to image prompts and though she no longer participates in these prompts I will be forever grateful for the encouragement and feed back I received from her. She has approx. 7,000 followers but always finds time to like and comment back when I comment on her blog. She has started a new series of fantasy books, the first book in this series was published on August 29, 2020. I am an avid reader of both historical and fantasy fiction and so it was easy for me to agree when she asked for volunteers to promote her recently released book. This was not a freebie promotion, I downloaded it on my Kindle from Though at 99 cents U.S. and $1.34 Cdn. I didn’t have to dip into my savings.

I read the book in two days, just over three hours a day reading, and highly recommend it for lovers of fantasy fiction. The characters are well formed and the world building is exceptional. I have left a review of this book on Goodreads and and gave it four stars out of five. Below is the published bio of D. Wallace Peach and an overview of the novel.

About the Author

D. Wallace Peach started writing later in life after the kids were grown and a move left her with hours to fill. Years of working in business surrendered to a full-time indulgence in the imaginative world of books, and when she started writing, she was instantly hooked. Diana lives in a log cabin amongst the tall evergreens and emerald moss of Oregon’s rain-forest with her husband, two dogs, bats, owls, and the occasional family of coyotes.

On August 29, 2020 Diana launched Liars and Thieves, Book 1 in her new fantasy series, Unraveling the Veil. Here’s an overview: Behind the Veil, the hordes of Chaos gather, eager to savage the world. But Kalann il Drakk, First of Chaos, is untroubled by the shimmering wall that holds his beasts at bay. For if he cannot cleanse the land of life, the races will do it for him. All he needs is a spark to light the fire. Three unlikely allies stand in his way.  A misfit elf plagued by failure—When Elanalue Windthorn abandons her soldiers to hunt a goblin, she strays into forbidden territory. A changeling who betrays his home—Talin Raska is a talented liar, thief, and spy. He makes a fatal mistake—he falls for his mark. A half-breed goblin with deadly secrets—Naj’ar is a loner with a talent he doesn’t understand and cannot control, one that threatens all he holds dear. When the spark of Chaos ignites, miners goes missing. But they won’t be the last to vanish. As the cycles of blame whirl through the Borderland, old animosities flare, accusations break bonds, and war looms. Three outcasts, thrust into an alliance by fate, by oaths, and the churning gears of calamity, must learn the truth. For they hold the future of their world in their hands.

      1. We’ve been socked in by smoke for a week, Len. A strange summer seems to be ending less than well here on the west coast. Hopefully autumn will bring good news and clear skies. Thanks again for having me! 🙂

    1. Hi Miriam. Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. I’m doing a happy dance! The treat was mine, truly. I’m so glad you enjoyed the book. Thanks for following the tour. It’s been great fun and I’m happy to be visiting with Len today. Have a wonderful day, my friend. ❤

      1. I know how it goes with grandkids, Diana. When I visit my granddaughters, I don’t have time taking to Hubby on the phone during the day. I learned to text him in the morning to say hi and talk more in the evening after they’ve done to bed. So glad to spent time with him. I enjoyed learning the bits and pieces about the book and about your writing from the tour. 💖 I just did a couple hours of gardening, so it’s been a good day. 💖

      2. Isn’t that wonderful? Your grandson gave you some physical exercise. I admire some grandparents raise the grand kids like the neighbor across the street. Her daughter wasn’t around for the first ten years.

      3. Same situation with my daughter but she had girls and Autumn is three.

The 41 years old arsonist who set off the fire in southern Oregon was caught and sent to mental hospital. I don’t know if he’d be in jail. Two arsons in Washington and one in California. What a word with insane people on the street.

  1. Thank you so much for the kind comment, Abi. I have my morning coffee, my slippers, and you’ve added a smile. If you decide to dive into this one, I hope you enjoy it! Have a happy, healthy day. Take care!
